Postgraduate Virtual Learning Environment

Virtual Fracture Clinic — Redesigning the Trauma Pathway
Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
A phased redesign of how patients moved from the Emergency Department into fracture clinic follow-up, developed and led as part of a wider strategy to improve patient safety, quality and efficiency. Phase I (January 2020) assessed the viability and safety of the ED-to-trauma-service pathway; Phase II (February 2020) tested capacity and further developed the service. The Virtual Fracture Clinic was then implemented formally in August 2020, delivering a 60% reduction in fracture clinic attendances while maintaining patient safety and consultant-led oversight of every case.
